Beautiful words from the Pastor in London

Kirkebladet Den Danske Kirke I London, Maj 2026 Karsten Møller Hansen skriver om Kirsten Høst
Translated from the original Church Bulletin: The Danish Church In London, May 2026 - Pastor Karsten Møller Hansen writes:

Some things are just talking to you. Why? You seldom know that.  Impressions just hit you, show you a direction, into yourself and out of yourself.  Of course you can describe the road, give it an explanation, you can describe the houses, the road, the asphalt, the gravel, the trees along the road – but the words do not cover what you wish to say, it just becomes a description.

That is completely ok! That is why Art exist.  Art is an effort to describe that, you do not completely know what is.  Art is to walk down a road you do not know where it ends.  You have to walk the whole way to find where it ends.

Last year the artist Kirsten Høst, who has lived in London, was back in town, to visit friends and give a lecture about her art, organized by “De Danske kvinder’s klub i London”.  I sneaked in. Perhaps this was also for men?  I was a little sceptic, I am, when it is about Art.  I feel often it is too much about the artist him or herself, the art is overlooked, strange self-important, something the artist wants to say, not something the artist is LONGING for – the road stops there.

What hit me? Mostly Kirstens longing and her vulnerability, which occurs, when one dare to express, that one hasn’t found out anything, but that one dare to walk the road, preferably with others.

The simple, the clarity in her paintings, opens up so one doesn’t need to start interpretation too much.  Instead you can just let them openly speak to you!

In the church we are also talked to, and we must follow the road towards that we are longing for, where we end up – we do not know yet! But we know, we must walk the road, hopefully together.

It is a joy for this church, that Kirsten has painted an additional 5 paintings, as she promised last year, where some of her geometric works hang so colourful on the white walls of the church.

After the service on White Sunday, the 24th of May 2026, at 1.pm, we open the doors to the church , to see all 8 paintings, the story of Jesus.  I will have a talk with Kirsten about her Art, and about the strong connection there is between Art and the Church.

It was a monk, I met on a night train to Napoli 31 years ago, who said:

“God is Art!”
