Welcome to my world

I have loved geometry since I was a little girl, and have always had a compass and a ruler with me.

When I construct a new geometric painting, I suddenly discover something in the construction, and I will develop it without thinking very much. I forget time and place – those hours are VERY happy hours!

It has taken me many years to peel off my belief in authority – how one SHOULD paint or NOT. Now I know, I must stay loyal to whatever inspiration leads me to – and accept whatever it looks like!

Kirsten Høst – Artistic background and practice

Kirsten Høst is a Danish artist, now living in Denmark, after spending 30 years in London, UK, where she attended John Cass’s Art School and had her first exhibition in 1982.

Kirstens oilpaintings are strongly influenced by geometry, which she sees reflected in all aspects of our universe. This theme was reinforced by her meticulous study and admiration of the great renaissance painters in the museums in Italy, where she has spent longer periods of time, especially in Firenze, Perugia and Venezia.

Kirstens work frequently starts with a geometric shape and with an open mind, and inspiration develops a life and vibration of its own. She believes that beauty, colour, balance and harmony influence us all very much – and so does the lack of it!

Therefore she is convinced that it is meaningful and positive to create paintings, which touches the spectators heart – makes him/her feel good – and hopefully conveys that love is stronger than fear!

It fascinates her, that the universe IS a geometric construction, and how simple and at the same time how incredibly complicated it is.

Her work has been exhibited in: London, Edinburg, Philadelphia, New York, Palermo, Firenze, Barcelona, Paris, Budapest and Copenhagen.

Divine Geometry

“Kirsten Høst is a Danish artist of undeniable talent, whose works stem from a deep conviction that a greater order and harmony exist within life.

Through symmetry and geometric compositions, she creates a cultivated visual universe where the real and the imaginary merge. Standing before her works, one experiences a sense of peace and otherworldly calm – a harmonious microcosm in which light, colours, and forms contribute to a unified chromatic symphony.

Her images speak a universal language, woven with hope and positive emotion.”

A glimpse into the studio

My work often begins with a geometric form – a simple starting point that opens into a greater movement.
In the studio, I work in silence and deep concentration, where colours, lines, and surfaces gradually find their place.
Over the years, I have learned to let go of rules and expectations of how a painting “should” look. Today, I follow what emerges in the process – and accept the expression that reveals itself.

My inspiration library

My inspiration comes from many sources – nature, dreams, film, and music – but especially from working with geometry.

For many years, I have studied sacred geometry and am fascinated by how the structures of the universe can be both simple and infinitely complex.

Residencies in Italy and encounters with the masters of the Renaissance have had a profound influence on my work.

Standing in front of an original artwork created hundreds of years ago is an experience no reproduction can replace – and a deep source of inspiration.
